The Sunday Five (December 21st-27th)

1.Bomb Scare on Air France Flight Turns Out to be Hoax: An Air France 777 on a flight from Mauritius to Paris made an emergency landing after a suspected bomb was found in the lavatory. Upon further inspection the "bomb" was merely cardboard, paper, and a household timer. 
2.United Pilot Contract Proposal Advances to Vote: The Air Line Pilots Association’s United master executive council voted 13-7 to submit the contract proposal for membership vote. The proposal calls for a 13% raise in pay in 2016 followed by a raise of 3% in 2017 and 2% in 2018.  
3.Emirates Adds More Flights to Istanbul: Emirates will begin daily service to Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, which is located on the Asian side of the city, increasing its capacity to Istanbul by 35%. A330-200 equipment will be used to serve the daily flight. 
4.Malaysia Airlines to Open Hub at Kota Kinabalu Airport: As part of Malaysia Airlines' restructuring, the airline will open a hub at Kota Kinabalu Airport, Malaysia's second largest airport. The airline will initially base six 737-800 aircraft and open a local crew base. Currently Malaysia only serves four destinations from Kota Kinabalu.  
5.Fiji Airways to Begin Service to San Francisco: Small island carrier Fiji Airways will begin seasonal service to San Francisco on June 16th, 2016 and will be operated on A330-200 aircraft.  

The "What the Heck?" Story of the Week 
A Malaysia Airlines flight flew in the wrong direction after taking off from Auckland, New Zealand. Malaysia Airlines Flight #132, destined for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, started flying on a different course than the pilots expected. The pilots were able to change course and a full investigation has been launched into the incident.
