United Unveils New Business Class and Lounge Product

After a long wait, United has finally revealed its new business class product – a branded flying experience called Polaris. The major theme of Polaris, which is another name for the North Star, is sleep. The new Polaris business class seats are aptly called "sleep pods" complete with mood lighting, a do not disturb sign, and bedding by Saks Fifth Avenue.

United is taking the theme of sleep so seriously that included in the amenity kit is a bottle of lavender pillow mist. United also provides gel cooled pillows upon request.

The new Polaris seats feature direct aisle access, 6 foot 6 inch long bed, and a 16-inch HD screen.

The Polaris experience continues on the ground at United's new Polaris branded lounges that will include sleep pods for napping and a boutique restaurant setting.

Another major theme of the United Polaris experience is exclusivity and privacy. The Polaris lounges are open only to United business class passengers and the Zodiac manufactured seats feature electronic privacy dividers.

United is also updating its dining offerings on the ground and in the air by partnering with the renowned chefs and establishments of The Trotter Project in Chicago.

United Polaris will officially be launched on December 1st, 2016 on the airline's new 777-300ER aircraft. A Polaris lounge in Chicago will also be opened on December 1st. United Polaris will then be rolled out on United's new 787-10 and A350-1000 aircraft as well. United also plans to refurbish its fleet of international 777-200ER and 767 aircraft with Polaris although no time frame has been revealed.
